Southside Players put on three main stage productions a year. Each of these involves a full rehearsal schedule (three months), cast and backstage crew and detailed budget. Currently we perform these main stage productions in the drama studio of Chestnut Grove Academy in Balham, South London. This exceptional theatre space provides seating for 120 people and a full lighting rig and sound box.
In addition, Southside Players offers opportunities for both new and experienced directors and actors to present ‘rehearsed readings’. These differ from main stage productions by being less technical with a shorter rehearsal time and with actors remaining ‘on the book’. While these may be smaller in scale, they are an equally important part of our annual repertoire and are a fun way to experiment with theatre. On average we put on two rehearsed readings a year in various venues in South London. For those wishing to direct main stage productions, we ask that you stage a rehearsed reading first, in order to get more of a feel for bringing a play to life.
